Ginkgo Christmas Tree
Learn some of Ann's free-motion embroidery techniques while making this 9 x 12 inch quilt, based on her pattern of the samename. This is a full day workshop for quilters with basic machine skills. An enjoyable way to use up a few of the scraps you have lying around! A sewing machine is needed, with feed dog lowering capability.
Supply List
Every student is responsible for understanding their sewing machine and how to adjust it. Some brands have computer menus that are difficult to navigate. You will need to know how to: raise and lower top tension; lower feed dogs; change stitch width; change stitch length; reduce pressure on the presser foot; know how to set your machine for free-motion work. Some Viking machines have a free-motion override setting, know how to find and activate it.

- Sewing Machine, owner's manual, darning foot, several bobbins, bed extender
- $8.00 pattern fee
- Neutral background 5.5 x 8.5 inches
- Border fabric enough for 3 x 40 inches
- 1/8 yard Crisp tear-away
- 1 yard Wonder Under. Please test product by pressing a small piece onto fabric. Paper should peel off without difficulty.
- 5 or more medium to dark green fabrics for tree; at lease 3 x 6 inches in size
- 1 3 x 3 inch piece of brown for trunk of Christmas tree
- 12 x 12 inch square of muslin for experimenting
- Sewing thread for sewing border to background
- 1 spool variegated green thread for embroidery *
- Machine embroidery hoop-plastic rim with metal inner clamp
- Schmetz top stitch needles #12 and 14
- Scissors

- Extra bobbin case
- Small board for assembling the tree for fusing
- Quilter's gloves
- Craft iron
- Gold or white decorative thread for embellishments on tree
- Pressing sheet for fusing
*The instructor will have hoops, thread and needles available for purchase. Email instructor in advance if you need a hoop.
Classroom Setup: 1-2 students per table. Irons and ironing boards. Extension cords 2 tables for the use of the instructor.
