Learn the basics of beading a small wallhanging, embellishing a beautiful printed fabric, or just a small applique. This full day workshop includes discussion of supplies, equipment, incorporating beading into wallhangings and clothing. A small beaded project will be made during the second half of the class. Students may bring a completed small project to bead or for consultation. This class is for any quilter with a love of handwork. Beads and supplies may be purchased from the instructor.
Supply List
- Bring a scrap of floral fabric, and a 10 inch square of solid color fabric to practice different beading techniques!
- A selection of glass seed and bugle beads.
- Beading needles
- beading thread; Nymo or Silamide*
- Thimble
- Scissors
- Embroidery hoop, optional
- Small shallow plastic bowl, or Tupperware container with lid.
- All students are encouraged to bring projects they would like to bead. Time permitting, beading possibilities will be discussed with each student.
- The instructor will have a selection of beads, needles and beading thread available for purchase.
Full day class: the student will need to bring the following in addition to the above:
- Bring a piece of solid red fabric (or your choice of another color) about as big as a 3 x 5 card.
- 3 x 5 piece of Paper backed fusible webbing
- The class project is: to bead a small heart shape. The student has a choice: 1. To bead a heart on a piece of clothing, or 2. To bead a heart on a small square of fabric which may be made into a small wallhanging, part of a handbag, or pillow. If you choose the clothing option, please appliqué the heart by hand/machine before coming to class.
- A selection of matching or contrasting seed and bugle beads for the heart
- Pencil
Classroom setup: Please provide a table for every two students. One iron and ironing board for the class. No more than 20 students. Additional students can be added with an additional small fee for instructor. Two large tables for the use of the instructor.
