Christmas day could have been rather depressing. It was the first year with the children gone. We all had a wonderful celebration several days prior to Christmas. But just in case I had problems on the 25th, I made a list of things that I could do to keep me busy. I bought a fresh lime, so I could put a slice in my diet Coke. I had a small quilt to work on, and a linen closet to clean.
Christmas morning arrived. I stayed in my pajamas until 2 in the afternoon! Then I got dressed and went to work on my little quilt. For a break I fixed my soda and lime in a beautiful Colleen Waterford goblet. My motto is: Everything tastes better in fine sparkling crystal! By late afternoon, Oreo the cat gets really pesky, so I decided to stop sewing and begin work on the linen closet.
Everything in there, had to be unloaded, sorted, and returned to the shelves or put in a Goodwill bag. As I was sorting through old sheets something that I had been missing for several years dropped out of a fitted sheet! My favorite leopard sock! All this time, its mate had been in my “missing sock basket” on my dresser, waiting for its friend. At last it had happened! This was truly a miracle and a wonderful day.
This still life with sock is machine pieced, appliquéd, embroidered and quilted. Wool batting.
