When I was little, I'd watch the sunset over Winona Lake with my great-grandmother. Every evening the family would gather in the yard to watch the color changes in the sky and on the water.
It began with the idea of using the colors at sunset, so I picked bright rich colors for the silhouettes of the flowers and set them on a yellow chintz background. The flowers were troubling to me, then I realized that they needed some pistils and stamens for a focal point. I added them using metallic thread over the quilting that was already finished. Now I can enjoy these colorful flowers floating on the water!
