This is a quilted book filled with 12 original quilts all bound together with a short journal entry to accompany each one.
Each quilt was part of the "Journal Quilt" exhibit in 2002 at the IQA show in Houston of that year. Each is the size of a page of paper. My theme was water lilies and I created something a little different for each month. The finished quilts were all bound into a book in 2005. March was a month that I did lots of painting around the house, so there are paint brushes dripping with paint floating on the lily pads.
For October you will see fall leaves floating with the lily pads. December of that year was my son's 21st birthday, so I used birthday candles and lily pads together.
June is a month when the lilies are in their full glory. Three white lilies float among the pads on the lake. The lilies are actually photos printed on fabric, the pads are fused then quilted with variegated metallic thread.
The front and back covers are bound in the traditional manner with a striped binding. The inside quilts are trimmed with a pinked edge with the batting exposed. The quilts are machine embroidered, appliqued, quilted, some sheer fabrics overlaid and a little hand beading.
This is very likely the only quilted book I will ever design and create.
