Inspired by my quilt titled Six Ginkgoes which is a long narrow piece with colorful 4-patch blocks on a dark background. I expanded the format from a long linear design to two rows of three patchwork blocks.
This quilt uses six 9-patch blocks surrounded by my hand painted fabric in soft yellow and pastel hues. Appliqued over the blocks are very large ginkgo leaves in rich purple or small red leaves. They are appliqued in place using my Florentine Edge technique, with decorative shiny threads and a wide rich edge covering stitch. The background is quilted using curves, spirals, fan shapes and floral loops in a pastel variegated polyester thread. The border is quilted using a fan like shape and repeated clamshell patterns.
There is a wide border of the same hand painted fabric with matching bias binding sewn on the edges. Wool batting.
