After a dry summer, my pink coneflowers bloomed for a longer period of time with more interesting shapes. I sketched them one September day and this quilt is the result. Set on a patchwork background of rich tones of red, purple, blue and green; the flowers and leaves are heavily embroidered. A scattering of iridescent bugle beads sparkle in the soil. The quilting designs include some feathers that are also growing out of the arrangement. This adds a rich textural backdrop for the cluster of flowers. The edges are bound with a red and blue stripe on the top half and a green and red stripe on the lower edge. In a private collection.
