This quilt was made by accident. Ann was working on a commission for Ripon College. The Sandhill Cranes that she had so carefully assembled, didn't look good on the pieced background created especially for the college. A new background was sewn to create a background especially for these left-over birds. And new birds were designed for the Ripon College quilt.

These birds are fabricated from sumptuous silks and cottons. They are heavily machine appliqued and embroidered with shiny rayon threads to achieve a life-like appearance. An article about the creation of this quilt and its companion is included in the spring 1998 issue of The American Quilter Magazine.
