Flamingo Garden by Ann Fahl
This fanciful garden is set in a palladian window. It was inspired by an exhibit at Wustum Museum of Fine Art in Racine, WI. All the works included flamingos in some way. It was both amazing and amusing all at the same time. After visiting the show, I decided I needed to make a quilt with flamingos.
Two machine appliqued flamingos are standing in a machine pieced, fenced garden, embellished with hand beading. The garden background is created using free-form patchwork. The fabrics are cotton hand dyed and commercial fabrics. It is machine quilted with a cotton and polyester batting. The outside edges are bound with a contrasting bias cut striped fabric.
This quilt was Ann's first national award winner. It has been shown in many exhibits, magazines and books.
