The year 2022 will be a long one with the Omicron variant which spreads so fast. There are thousands of new cases every day in my state of Wisconsin. I wanted to create a light-hearted quilt to put on the front of my Valentine Card for this year.
I thought it would be fun to put hearts on the sides of the pyramids at Giza. Then the idea came to move the pyramids from the desert to Winona Lake, my favorite place in the world. And you, the viewers are looking at what developed!
The pyramids are fused to a hand dyed fabric of soft yellow and pastels. The water is layered over the lower edge of the pyramids. There is a yellow gold heart in the sky, instead of a sun. A combination of satin stitch and free-motion embroidery holds all the segments in place. The 3-part border unifies the composition, repeating a similar color palette from the center. It is machine quilted with variegated threads and bound with just the perfect striped fabric. Wool batting is used inside.
