This quilt top was made and beaded years ago, when I began teaching workshops in “Freeform Patchwork.” I drew a full sized diagram of diagonal curved lines, and filled the spaces with small drunkards path blocks, using strips sewn onto lightweight pellon foundation. All the colors were chosen from a striped decorator fabric which was used as the inner border. I experimented with some of the decorative machine stitches on my new machine to enhance the little fan shapes.
After all the little pieces were put together, I couldn’t resist creating curved lines of light blue iridescent seed beads across the surface. It was March of 2022 that I rediscovered this top. Finally I quilted it with curved machine stitching with light blue and green variegated Fantastico thread. After auditioning many different fabrics for the binding, I decided to face the edges instead of a using a traditional contrasting bound edge. There is wool batting inside.
