This tiny quilt was made as a birthday gift for a friend who loved this homely little red lighthouse, on the shore of Lake Michigan, Racine, WI. The structure has definitely seen better days. Long ago, the government announced that it was to be removed, as it was no longer functional. There was a large public outcry over the matter, so instead, it was decided to repair and give it a new coat of red paint. It still sits at the very end of a long break water, and if you walk out to it and touch it, and it will give you good luck.
The quilt is made from cotton scraps fused on a background of sky, water and the rocky shore. The quilt is machine appliqued, machine embroidered and quilted with variegated threads. The edges are bound with a one fourth inch binding, multi-blue striped fabric, with cotton batting inside.
