A garden of white coneflowers and black-eyed susans is growing on a background of purple patchwork. Like August Garden the flowers are oversized to really fill up the space inside the fused inner border. The petals of each flower are embroidered using a straight stitch, the hint of a shadow is also stitched using variegated thread. The flower centers are shaded using several colors of thread and a zigzag stitch. The piece is heavily quilted using a clamshell design; the outer border has coneflowers quilted into it. The binding is a purple, black and gold stripe.
I was working on this quilt when my friend George Hanson died. He was a gentleman of 82. His garden was full of flowers that I had given him; he called it the "Ann Fahl Memorial Garden!" Now, I have a memorial for him.
